Paraguayan Polka
Paraguay has 2 major types of music, which are considered a major part of this country’s culture. One of these types of music is the Paraguayan Polka. The Polka is named from a European beat, which is where the Paraguayan polka originated (Paraguay). The Polka was a style of music which was originally brought to Paraguay by Spanish missionaries. However, over time the Paraguayan Polka combined with musical elements of the local Indians and became a distinct type of music. Paraguayan Polkas use ternary and binary rhythms (Freebase). Normally European polkas only use binary rhythms (Freebase). The combination of these two different rhythms creates the unique sound of this musical style (Freebase). There are several types of Polkas which are different because of the composers which created the original styles of Polkas. Occasionally, these different styles of polkas will tell sad, epic or love stories (Paraguay).
